Sights/Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade with a hood atop a textured ramp integral to the barrel. The rear sight is a U-notch elevator sight dovetailed into a boss at the rear of the barrel, the notch is fine-adjustable for elevation. The receiver is drilled, tapped and filled for mounting an optic (none present). The left-rear of the receiver is drilled, tapped and filled for a receiver sight (none present).

Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The furniture is a one piece checkered walnut with a straight comb with cheekpiece, Super Grade sling swivels, and semi-pistol grip. The forend and grip are checkered with black caps. The checkering is well defined. The LOP measures 13 3/4" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The checkered steel buttplate shows light wear. The wood shows light wear with some scattered pressure dings and surface scratches. There are no chips or cracks. This furniture rates in Very Good-Plus condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp with stubborn fouling. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 9/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its metal finish. The finish is strong only showing scattered surface marks and edge wear on the trigger guard. The screw heads are lightly tooled and retain strong slots. The markings are clear and complete. Overall, this rifle rates in Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This is an outstanding post war Super Grade that retains approximately 98% of its original blue finish. The metal finish is deep, even, and remarkably well preserved. The stock shows the refined lines, checkering, and fit that define the Super Grade trim level, presenting a classic and elegant profile that reflects Winchester's finest sporting craftsmanship. The bolt is matching, which adds further desirability to an already high condition example.

Mechanically, the rifle is equally impressive. The bore rates 9 out of 10 with sharp rifling and a bright bore, indicating careful use. The action functions correctly with the smooth cycling and positive lockup that made the pre 64 and immediate post war Model 70 rifles legendary among hunters and riflemen. The 24" barrel balances well with the Super Grade stock, creating a rifle that is both visually striking and functionally superior.
