Sights/Optics: The front sight is a beaded post dovetailed into a raised base with a stippled face. The rear sight has been removed and a dovetail blank has filled where it used to be. A Kollmorgen Optical Corp Master scope is mounted to a Stith Mounts base screwed into the receiver. The glass is clear and the scope rates in Very Good condition.
Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The refinished furniture is one piece wood with a fluted comb, checkered semi-pistol grip, checkered forend, and a checkered metal buttplate. The buttpad has light finish wear and freckling. The furniture shows light pressure dings and drag lines. The LOP measures 13.5" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. There are no chips or cracks. The furniture rates in Very Good Plus condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp with light fouling. There is faint erosion at the muzzle end of the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 8/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its original metal finish. The finish shows light edge wear and a small rub mark on the barrel. The screw heads are lightly tooled and retain turnable slots. The markings are clear and complete. Overall, this rifle rates in Very Good Plus condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This Winchester Model 70 was manufactured in 1950 and qualifies as a Curio and Relic rifle. Produced by Winchester during the coveted pre-1964 era, the Model 70 had already earned its reputation as the "Rifleman's Rifle." Pre-64 examples are especially prized for their controlled-round-feed action, forged components, and high level of craftsmanship. By 1950, the Model 70 was firmly established as one of America's premier sporting rifles.
Chambered in .270 Winchester with a 24 inch barrel, this rifle reflects one of the most iconic hunting combinations of the 20th century.
