Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “WINCHESTER / TRADE MARK / MADE IN U.S.A.” followed by “-MODEL 94 – 30-30 WIN.- / -WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL-”, the top at the rear has an ovalled “WP” proof, found again on the chamber ring. The bottom of the receiver is marked with the serial number at the front.

Barrel Length: 20”

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a hooded beaded blade dovetailed to a textured, ramped base fixed to the front of the barrel. The rear sight is a u-notch elevator sight with fine elevation adjustment, dovetailed to the barrel. There are two drilled, tapped, and filled holes for a receiver sight (none present).

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece smooth walnut with banded forend, straight grip, straight comb, and checkered steel buttplate. The stocks have some scattered scuffs, scratches, and compressions. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 13 1/8” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. Overall, the stocks are in Very Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 9/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 60% of its metal finish. The finish is thinning at the leading edges. The action shows faint operational wear. There is some faint intermittent oxidation as well as scattered handling marks.Most of the receiver has worn to white with some blue reserved toward the rear. There are scratches throughout the barrel and magtube with a few nicks. The screw heads are sharp to tool marked with serviceable slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle is in Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The rifle has a half-cock safety and a lever safety. We have not fired this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This is a Winchester Model 94 Carbine in .30-30 WCF that was made in 1955. The .30-30 is perhaps the most popular deer cartridge in America, and the 94 chambered for this classic round is nearly synonymous with “deer rifle”. This rifle is in Very Good condition with 60% of its metal finish remaining, mild wear in the stocks, a great bore and strong mechanics. This rifle could be back out in the field dropping deer for another lifetime. As a pre-64 example of the 94 Carbine in high condition, it would also be a nice addition to a Winchester collection.
