Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade set between two protective wings. The rear sight is a fully adjustable aperture sight set between two protective wings.

 

 

Stock Configuration & Condition: The wood stock has a traditional Semi-pistol grip, metal nose caps, two sling loops, stacking ring, and a checkered metal butt plate with storage compartment. The LOP measures 13" inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. The wood has been lightly sanded and refinished. The wood shows light scattered compressions and surface level lines. The left lower edge of the forward handguard and the right leading edge of the rear upper handguard show chips that have been filled in with finish. The edges of the wood show some scattered small chips that have been finished over. There are no visible cracks. The butt plate has been refinished and shows rub wear under the finish and some around the edges. The door spring is strong and functions correctly. Overall the wood is in Very Good+ condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is mirror bright, the rifling is sharp, there is no erosion or pitting present in the bore. Our gauges show a muzzle of 1 and a throat erosion of 1. In this writer's opinion the bore rates 10/10.

 

 

Overall Condition: This rifle retains 97% of its metal finish. The friction surfaces of the bolt and receiver show very minor rub wear. The majority of the finish loss is thinning on the charging handle and op rod. There is some very minor thinning on the sight wings and muzzle. The finish on the trigger group is beginning to turn brown with age. The markings are clear and the screw heads are sharp. Overall this rifle is in Fine condition.

 

 

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

 

 

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle includes a foam lined cardboard box and a green canvas sling.

 

 

Our Assessment: The M1 Garand remained the standard U.S. service rifle well after World War II, continuing through the Korean War and into the early Cold War era. Post-WWII production rifles benefited from incremental improvements in metallurgy, machining, and quality control. These later Garands often saw far less hard service than their wartime predecessors and were maintained through arsenal programs that emphasized accuracy and long-term durability. This Springfield Armory M1 Garand was manufactured in 1955 and is fitted with a matching Springfield barrel dated 5-55 that is exceptionally well preserved, showing sharp rifling with muzzle and throat erosion readings of just 1 and 1, remarkable for a barrel of this era. The rifle was refurbished and sold by the CMP as a Service Grade, as confirmed by the serialized CMP box it accompanies, even though the original paperwork and grading tag are no longer present. Taken together, the late-production receiver, outstanding barrel condition, and CMP provenance make this a highly desirable shooter-grade Garand that also represents the best of post-war Springfield production.
