Sights / Optics: The front sight is a black blade, with a Trijicon H3 Tritium Dot insert, dovetailed to the slide. The rear sight is a Novak square-notch sight, dovetailed and screw-set to the slide.
Stock/Grip Configuration & Condition: The grips are a two-piece half-checkered wood grip set. The grips show no notable signs of wear. A small portion of the left panel has a lighter color on the front edge, this is a feature of the wood grain. The checkering is well defined. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grips rate in Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 10/10.
Overall Condition: This pistol retains about 99% of its original metal finish. The balance of the finish shows minor handling and storage wear. The bluing is deep and dark throughout. There is some minor operational marks on the barrel and chamber. The markings are clear and legible. The screw heads are sharp and the pins are unmarred. Overall, this pistol rates in Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly, as does the ambidextrous safety. We did not fire this pistol, but we did perform a mechanic's check. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This pistol comes with its original serial number matching plastic hard case, two cable locks, 1911 bushing wrench, Remington Platinum Service Plan Paperwork, and a total of three 7-round magazines. Two magazines are Remington, one Colt. Also included with this pistol, is a Certificate of Authenticity from the John Taffin Collection, signed by the Taffin family, with matching Make/Model/Serial Numbers.
Our Assessment: The Remington 1911 R1 Carry represents Remington's modern return to the platform it helped supply to the U.S. military over a century ago. Built in Ilion, New York, the R1 series blends classic Government Model lines with contemporary features suited for daily carry, including Novak pattern sights and enhanced controls. Chambered in .45 ACP, the cartridge adopted by the U.S. military in 1911 and long respected for its authoritative performance, the R1 Carry maintains the traditional single action trigger and steel frame that have defined the 1911's enduring appeal.
This example remains in Excellent condition, showing little sign of use. Of particular note, this pistol is accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity from the John Taffin Collection, indicating prior ownership by one of the most respected voices in American handgun writing, with over 500 articles published in Gun Digest, American Handgunner, and Sixgunner magazines. John was also involved in the opening of the Elmer Keith Museum in Boise, Idaho, which is located in the local Cabela's retail location.
