Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade set between two protective wings. The rear sight is a fully adjustable aperture sight.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The hardwood stock has a semi-pistol grip, metal nose cap, two sling loops, stacking loop, and a metal butt plate with hinged metal door for storage in the buttstock. The LOP measures 13 inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the butt plate. The wood shows scattered compressions, scratches, scuffs and surface level lines. There are some very small chips missing from some of the edges. There is a notable mar on the left side of the forend. There is a notable chip next to the rear right edge of the receiver. There are no cracks. The butt plate has lost almost all its finish, has rub wear on the edges and shows surface rust in the checkering. The door spring is strong. Overall the stock set is in about Good condition.

Finish Originality: Original.
Bore Condition: The bore is Very bright and the rifling is well defined. There is no visible erosion/pitting in the grooves of the bore. There is however some barely visible rust freckling on the lands I believe this should be able to be removed with a thorough cleaning. Our gauges show a muzzle reading of 1.5 and a throat erosion of about 1+. In this writer's opinion the bore rates 9.5/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 96% of its finish. The friction surfaces of the bolt and receiver show minor rub wear. The majority of the finish loss is from the cylinder lock, gas plug, and edges of the trigger guard. The markings are clear and the screw heads are sharp. Overall this rifle is in about Very Good-Very Good+ condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this rifle. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle includes a CMP certificate of authenticity and cardboard box with foam.
Our Assessment: This Harrington & Richardson M1 Garand is a semi-automatic rifle chambered in .30-06 Springfield, manufactured in 1955 with its correct January 1955 dated barrel. This rifle was sold by the Civilian Marksmanship Program in 2006 as a Correct Grade example, indicating it retains the proper parts consistent with H&R production for the period. The rifle remains in its original finish and configuration, representing a well-preserved Cold War-era Garand from the final years of U.S. military production.
The barrel gauges very well with a muzzle reading of 1.5 and throat erosion of 1, reflecting a strong bore rated approximately 9.5/10 showing excellent shooting potential. The stock shows honest handling wear consistent with the rifle's age, while the overall condition remains about Very Good+. As one of the later U.S.-made M1 Garands, this H&R example combines desirable originality with Very Good mechanical condition, making it both a highly collectible and very capable shooter.
