Markings:  The right side of the slide is marked “ATF236” with the Glock logo.  The chamber is marked “ATF236” and “GLOCK” with a pentagon proof. The bottom of the accessory rail has a metal inlay marked “ATF236US”. The right side of the grip is marked “MADE IN AUSTRIA / GLOCK. INC., SMYRNA, GA” patents at the bottom.  The left side of the grip has a Glock logo.  The left side of the slide is marked “GLOCK 17 AUSTRIA 9x19”.

Barrel Length: 4.49”

Sights/ Optics: The front sight is a white dotted blade fixed to the slide. The rear sight is a rectangular notch sight with white outline, dovetailed to the barrel. 

Stock Configuration & Condition/ Grip:  The grip is a one-piece textured polymer integral to the frame with checkered front and rear straps and textured flanks. There are no chips or cracks. There is little to no handling wear. The texture and checkering is sharp. Overall, the grip is in Excellent condition.

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition:  The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is some minor carbon buildup. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 9/10.  

Overall Condition:  The pistol retains about 98% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows light operational wear on the barrel hood, and light draglines primarily toward the front of the slide. The markings are clear. The pins are clear. Overall, this pistol rates in Excellent condition.

Mechanics:  The action functions correctly. The slide to frame fit is snug. We have not fired this pistol. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box Paperwork and Accessories:  This pistol comes with a Glock Tupperware Box and total of one Glock 10rd 9mm magazine.

Our Assessment: The Glock 17 Gen 2 was introduced in 1988 as an evolution of the original Glock 17, refining the pistol’s ergonomics and durability while maintaining its core design. Still chambered in 9mm with a 17+1 round capacity, the Gen 2 retained the 4.49-inch barrel and polymer-framed, striker-fired operation. However, Glock improved the grip texture by adding checkering on the front and back straps, enhancing control without the later finger grooves found in Gen 3 models. Internally, the Gen 2 featured an upgraded locking block and modifications to the frame and slide rails, increasing overall longevity. Like its predecessor, it utilized Glock’s "Safe Action" system with three passive safeties, ensuring a consistent and simple trigger pull without the need for external safeties.

Durability and reliability remained the Glock 17 Gen 2’s standout features, as it performed exceptionally well in military and law enforcement trials worldwide. The pistol functioned reliably under extreme conditions, from sand and mud to freezing temperatures, solidifying Glock’s reputation as one of the most rugged handgun manufacturers. The Gen 2 also introduced a revised magazine design with an additional metal lining, strengthening feed lips and preventing deformation under prolonged use. Though later generations added accessory rails, finger grooves, and interchangeable backstraps, the Gen 2 remains a favorite among Glock enthusiasts for its clean, no-frills design and historical significance in Glock’s continued dominance in the handgun market.
