The world had never seen an army like the German army of WW2; as Winston Churchill once said, "If it is to live in peace, it must never see another". At its apogee, Germany's conquests extended from the French channel ports in the West to Stalingrad in the East. In the mid-war period, the hard fighting German soldaten were issued a unique "overseas" type field cap, which was only made for one year, 1942, before being replaced by the M-43 model. This German Army WW2 Heer EM/NCO M-42 Wool “Overseas” Type Field Cap is in very good condition, with some patina to the metal front buttons, two pine green feldgrau wool period stitched patch repairs on the left front body under the left ear flap, a small spot of mothing at the left side crown, moderate scattered tearing and brownish soiling to the satin lining, all of the size, maker, and date markings having long since faded away from that lining, and with some scattered age wear evident. Otherwise, the cap is in fine shape, with no other damage to the tough grayish green feldgrau wool construction. Most interestingly, it boasts the original bevo woven spread wing eagle and national cockade Heer insignia hand sewn at the upper middle front crown, sports the classic, unique M-42 two gray "pebbled" metal buttons connecting the ear flaps at the lower middle front, and features the original metal ventilation grommet at each side crown. It's approximately a Size 57 (US Size 7 1/8), bears the original grayish satin lining, and is a fine example of a rare, original German Army WW2 Heer EM/NCO M-42 Wool “Overseas” Type Field Cap.
