Sights / Optics: The front sight is a hooded brass beaded blade dovetailed to a serrated ramp base that is fixed to the barrel. The rear sight is a folding U-notch leaf with a white triangle aiming reference, fine adjustable for elevation and dovetailed in a base that is drift adjustable for windage. The top of the receiver is drilled and tapped for mounting an optic, none present.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is one piece checkered walnut with a Monte Carlo comb with a cheekpiece, pistol grip, two through-bolts, sling studs front and rear, and a brown ventilated Browning recoil pad. The stock has scattered nicks, scuffs and scratches. There is some crazing in the finish, most notable at the rear of the butt. The checkering is well defined. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 13 5/8” from the front of the trigger to the back of the pad. The pad shows light wear and has hardened slightly with age. The stock rates in Very Good condition.

Type of Finish: Blue

Finish Originality: Original, the bolt is serial-matching.

Bore Condition: The bore is semi-bright and the rifling is sharp. There is scattered light erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates about 7/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 95% of its metal finish. The finish is thinning at most edges. There are spots of finish wear at the muzzle on each side. There are scattered small nicks on the top of the barrel forward of the forend. There is infrequent light wear on the bottom metal. The action shows operational wear. The screw heads range from sharp to lightly tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle is in Very Good-plus condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: The High-Power rifle was offered in three grades, including Safari, Medallion and Olympian. In spite of the Safari being the base rifle, it was a beauty with select walnut stock wood and hand-cut checkering. The trigger guard and floorplate were lightly engraved and highlighted with gold. This was a beautiful rifle when it was made 55 years ago, and is still a beautiful rifle to this day. In addition to its good looks, it has a strong FN Mauser style action and is chambered for the popular 7mm Remington Magnum cartridge. Please see our photos and good luck!
