Sights/Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade with a hood mounted to a serrated base fixed to the barrel. The rear sight is a flip-up u-notch dovetailed into the barrel. The receiver has four filled taps for mounting an optic on the receiver, though none is present.

Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The one piece wood furniture has a straight comb, checkered semi-pistol grip, checkered forend, and a checkered synthetic buttplate. There is light wear present with a few minor pressure dings, scuffs, and scratches. The LOP measures 13.75" from the face of the trigger to the rear of the butt. There are no chips or cracks. Overall the furniture is in Fine condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright and the rifling is sharp with light fouling. There is faint erosion in the bore towards the muzzle. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 8/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its metal finish. The finish shows light wear with a few minor scratches and spots of finish wear. There are some scuffs on the magazine. The markings are clear and complete. Overall, this rifle rates in Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have NOT verified that this example has been sent to Winchester for recall. The winning bidder should confirm with Winchester prior to firing and returning the firing pin for replacement if it has not been replaced already. We have not fired this rifle. As with all used firearms, thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This rifle presents in solid overall condition, retaining approximately 98% of its original finish. The metal surfaces are clean and evenly preserved with light handling evidence, and the stock maintains its classic mid century Winchester sporting profile. The 22" barrel gives the rifle a balanced, traditional appearance and supports the .308 Winchester cartridge well. Overall presentation is strong and reflects careful use and storage.

The Winchester Model 100 is subject to a well documented factory recall involving the firing pin. Original firing pins were prone to breakage, which could result in an unintended discharge. Winchester issued a recall and provided a redesigned firing pin to correct this issue. It is critical that prospective owners verify whether this rifle has had the updated firing pin installed. If the recall modification has not been performed, the rifle should not be fired until the firing pin has been replaced with the updated version.

Historically, the Model 100 represents Winchester's entry into the modern semi automatic sporting rifle market, offering hunters a reliable, gas operated platform chambered in popular cartridges such as .308 Winchester. As a first-year 1961 production example, it retains strong collector and shooter interest. With its high exterior condition and correct operation, this rifle is an attractive example.
