Sights/Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade dovetailed into the barrel. The rear sight is an adjustable elevation v-notch dovetailed into the barrel. The barrel and receiver each have two taps for mounting an optic, though none is present.

Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The two piece wood furniture has a straight comb, semi-pistol grip, 15-groove forend, and a smooth metal buttplate. There is moderate wear present with pressure dings, scuffs, and scratches. The LOP measures 13.5" from the face of the trigger to the rear of the butt. Most notable is a hole at the lower rear of the butt where a sling swivel was mounted. Additionally, there is minor cracking at the heel. Overall the furniture is in Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright and the rifling is sharp with light fouling. There is a squib ring in the bore towards the muzzle. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 7/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 20% of its metal finish, as most has turned to patina. The finish shows scattered dings, scuffs, and handling wear. The markings are clear and complete. Overall, this rifle rates in Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This pump action rimfire shows honest field wear, retaining approximately 20% of its original finish. Importantly, the rifle retains matching serialized parts, which supports originality despite the exterior wear. The classic Trombone profile remains intact, with clean lines and correct proportions.

Mechanically, the rifle is sound. The bore rates 7 out of 10, showing moderate wear but retaining usable rifling for practical rimfire shooting. The action functions correctly and delivers the smooth, refined pump stroke for which the Trombone is well known. Cycling is positive and consistent, reflecting the quality of FN manufacture.

Historically, the Trombone holds a special place among pump action rimfires as a premium offering distinguished by fit, finish, and smooth operation. FN produced examples from this era are respected for their build quality, and multi cartridge capability for Short, Long, and Long Rifle adds practical versatility.
