Our Assessment: This Enfield No.4 Mk 2 was manufactured in 1955 and qualifies as a Curio and Relic firearm. Produced after World War II as the final and most refined variant of the famous Lee-Enfield service rifle, the No.4 Mk 2 incorporated improvements such as the trigger being hung from the receiver rather than the trigger guard, resulting in a more consistent trigger pull and enhanced accuracy. Although introduced after the war, many No.4 Mk 2 rifles remained in military stores for decades, with a significant number never seeing issue. Original "mummy wrapped" examples preserved in their factory storage paper and cosmoline are among the most desirable examples available to collectors.
Chambered in .303 British with a 24.5 inch barrel, the No.4 Mk 2 combines the legendary smooth Lee-Enfield action with the battle-proven .303 British cartridge. This rifle remains in its original long-term storage packing paper and cosmoline, preserving it in the same condition in which it left military storage. The bolt is present; however, in order to preserve the original packaging, we did not cycle the action or perform a functional check.
The rifle appears to be in Excellent condition as viewed through the original wrapping, with no significant condition issues visible through the packing paper. Because the rifle remains sealed in its original preservative wrapping, the underlying metal and wood have not been inspected directly, and the evaluation is based on its visible exterior condition. Highly sought after by military arms collectors, "mummy wrapped" No.4 Mk 2 rifles represent an increasingly scarce opportunity to acquire an essentially unissued example of Britain's final Lee-Enfield service rifle in its original military storage configuration.
