Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The furniture is checkered wood with a semi pistol grip, cheek piece, and a synthetic Pachmayr White Line buttpad. The furniture only shows some minor pressure dings and drag lines. The checkering is well defined. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 13.75" and 12.75" from the fronts of the triggers to the back of the buttpad. The drop at comb is about 1.75" and the drop at the heel is about 2.75". The buttpad has minimal wear and remains supple. Overall, the furniture rates in Fine Plus condition.

Bore Condition: The bores are bright with light streaking. There is no erosion in the bores. In this writer’s opinion, the bores rate 9.5 out of 10.
Overall Condition: This shotgun retains about 96% of its metal finish. The barrel set shows only a single small scratch on the right side of the right barrel near the muzzle. The receiver has some thinning of the case coloring and edge wear. The action shows light operational wear. "H.G." is marked on the trigger guard. The screw heads are unmarred and retain turnable slots. The markings are clear and complete. Overall, this shotgun is in Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The barrels lock to the receiver with no play. The safety does not engage automatically when the barrel set is opened. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This East German J.P. Sauer & Sohn Model 60 was manufactured in 1953 and qualifies as a Curio and Relic firearm. Produced by J. P. Sauer & Sohn during the early postwar period in East Germany, the Model 60 continued the company's long tradition of building finely crafted sporting shotguns. Despite the political and economic challenges of the era, Sauer maintained a reputation for producing elegant and dependable side-by-side shotguns with excellent fit, finish, and handling. Early East German Sauer doubles have become increasingly desirable among collectors for their historical significance and quality workmanship.
Chambered for 16 Gauge with 28.375 inch barrels, this side-by-side features a traditional field choke combination with the left barrel choked Full and the right barrel choked Improved Modified, making it well suited for upland hunting, waterfowl, and general sporting use. In this writer's opinion, the bores rate 9.5 out of 10, indicating excellent internal condition. The action functions correctly.
