Sights / Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade dovetailed to a serrated ramped base fixed to the barrel; the base is grooved for a hood that is not present. The rear sight is a folding "U"-notch with a white diamond aiming reference dovetailed to the rear of the barrel; the notch is fine-adjustable for elevation. The top of the receiver is drilled, tapped and filled for mounting an optic (none present). The left-rear of the receiver is drilled, tapped and filled for a receiver sight (none present).

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is a one-piece checkered walnut with capped pistol grip, straight comb, checkered black plastic buttplate, and sling swivels front and rear. The stock has evenly scattered nicks, dings, scuffs and scratches. The checkering is generally well defined. There are no chips or cracks. The wood is notably proud to the buttplate, the buttplate is likely a replacement. The LOP measures 13 3/4" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The plate has scattered wear with generally well defined checkering. Overall, the stock is in Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is semi-bright and the rifling is sharp where not interrupted by erosion. There is some scattered light erosion and less frequent pitting in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, this bore rates 6/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 87% of its metal finish. The finish is thinning at all edges. There is infrequent light wear on the barrel. The top of the receiver has minor wear from a previously installed optic mount. There are some light nicks and scratches with infrequent minor oxidation. There are scattered light marks on the trigger guard, most at edges. The action shows operational wear. The screw heads range from sharp to tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle is in Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. Please note: Winchester initiated a recall for this model in 1990. This rifle does not include any paperwork addressing whether or not this rifle has been serviced based on this recall. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 100 is a semi-automatic rifle manufactured by Winchester Repeating Arms Company. It was first introduced in 1961, and was manufactured until 1973 in what many consider to be a fallow period in the company’s history. Approximately 263,000 were manufactured. This rifle series was recalled in 1990 due to an issue with the firing pin becoming dislodged, putting the safety of the user at great risk. As of 2024, Winchester is still honoring the recall notice, and will repair the Model 100 free of charge. We have not verified whether this example has been sent to Winchester for repair. We STRONGLY RECOMMEND contacting Winchester prior to firing and returning the firing pin for the recall if it has not been addressed already. This example is chambered in .243 Winchester, making it appropriate for small to medium game, having manageable recoil and great ballistics. This example was manufactured in 1962 and is in Very Good condition, showing signs of use over the last 60+ years.
