Sights / Optics: There is no front sight. The rear sight is a fixed V-notch integral to the upper tang.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The one-piece full-length wood stock is of French military pattern and is fitted with three barrel bands, a metal buttplate, sling hardware, and an under-barrel ramrod. The trigger guard is also French. The stock shows extensive age and service wear with scattered scratches, nicks, dents, compressions, finish loss, and numerous losses along the exposed edges. There is a crack on the left side of the stock forward of the side plate. There are additional worn and chipped areas around the lock and barrel channel. The nose cap spring has been removed. The LOP measures approximately 13" from the front of the trigger to the rear of the buttplate. Overall, the stock rates in Fair antique condition.

Bore Condition: The forward half of the bore is dark, becoming brighter toward the breech. There is mild erosion throughout. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 4/10.
Overall Condition: No finish remains. The remaining metal has gone to an even patina. There is scattered oxidation. The remaining markings are legible. There are scattered nicks, dings, and scratches. The screw heads are tool marked with serviceable slots. Overall, this custom musket rates in Poor - Fair condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The lock, barrel, and stock are not properly matched. Most notably, the flash pan sits too high in relation to the barrel and covers the touch hole. This confirms the incompatible relationship between the lock and barrel and prevents the ignition system from being correctly aligned. This musket should be regarded as a composite antique arm rather than an original, mechanically correct military musket.

Our Assessment: This is an interesting composite flintlock musket assembled from genuine antique military components spanning two nations and nearly seven decades. The lock is a British Tower pattern example dated 1777 and bearing the traditional Crown/GR marking of the Georgian period, while the British-proofed barrel is considerably later and bears an 1845 date. These components have been fitted to a French-pattern military stock with French trigger guard furniture, producing an arm that has the outward appearance of an early military flintlock but was never an original British or French service configuration in its present form. The mismatched relationship is particularly evident at the breech, where the pan is positioned too high and actually obscures the barrel's touch hole.
The musket shows substantial age, handling, and component wear. The metal has essentially lost all original finish and now carries an overall dark brown patina, while the stock exhibits heavy edge losses, scattered dents and abrasions, and a crack forward of the left side plate. The smoothbore rates 4/10 with darkness toward the muzzle and mild erosion throughout. As a genuine assemblage of antique British and French military parts, this is an intriguing study piece, decorator, or representative example of the long history of repurposing and rebuilding obsolete martial arms.
