Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade with a red fiber-optic insert dovetailed to the front of the slide. The rear sight is a fully adjustable square notch with two green fiber-optic inserts, dovetailed to the rear of the slide.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece "lava" textured G10 panels with the Coonan logo in their centers. The mainspring housing is matching. The grips have no notable wear or damage, only light handling marks. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grips are in Excellent condition.

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore, there is a little stubborn fouling. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 9/10.

Overall Condition: This pistol retains about 98% of its metal finish. The action shows minor operational wear. Otherwise, there are only light handling marks. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this pistol rates in Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this pistol. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This pistol comes in a Coonan zipper case with manual, cable lock, test fire cases, foam ear plugs in Coonan-branded capsule (appear unused), takedown tools, spare red fiber-optic insert, Shooter's Choice FP-10 lubricant and a total of four Coonan branded 7-round magazines.

Our Assessment: Perhaps best known for their 1911-style pistols chambered for .357 Magnum, Coonan Inc. has a devoted following for this large-frame, hard hitting pistol. After years of producing their Magnum, Coonan finally introduced a .45 at the 2016 SHOT Show. While 1911 purists may turn their nose up at a pistol without a barrel link, an external extractor, monolithic frame with full-length dust-cover, and a pivoting trigger, that's the way Coonan built them. Other manufacturers certainly seem to think the external extractor is a good change to the standard 1911, and the linkless barrel is now significantly more common than the 1911 design. In all, this pistol seems to live up to Coonan's motto, "nothing left to envy". This example appears to have seen limited and responsible use, comes with a Coonan case and a total of four Coonan branded magazines.
