Sights/Optics: The front sight is a quarter-round blade fixed to the front of the barrel. The rear sight is a square notch in the topstrap.

Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two piece textured wood with Colt medallions. There are minimal blemishes on the wood. Overall, the grips rate in Excellent condition.

Type of Finish: Plated gold alloy, blued

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 10/10.

Overall Condition: This pistol retains about 99% of its finish. There are minimal handling and operational marks present. There is a faint turn line on the cylinder. There is some light loss of the gold colored inlay in the markings, however the markings are still clear and complete. Overall, this pistol rates in about Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This commemorative revolver presents in exceptional overall condition, retaining approximately 99% of its original gold alloy and blue finish. The contrasting finishes remain bright and evenly preserved with minimal handling evidence, and the extended 6" barrel provides a refined, display oriented profile with an excellent sight picture. Commemorative markings are crisp and well defined, reinforcing the pistol's presentation grade intent.

Mechanically, the revolver is excellent. The bore rates a perfect 10 out of 10, showing bright steel and sharp rifling with no visible wear. The action functions correctly with smooth hammer travel, proper cylinder indexing, and solid lockup. Timing and engagement are correct, consistent with Colt's quality standards for Frontier Scout production of this era.

Released in 1969 to commemorate the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad, the Golden Spike Scout is one of Colt's most visually distinctive Frontier Scout commemoratives. The inclusion of the original display case and the golden railroad spike substantially enhances completeness and collector appeal. High condition examples with full presentation accessories are always a nice addition to a collection.
