Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade fixed to the front of the barrel. The rear sight is a square notch at the rear of the topstrap.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece checkered black plastic with rampant colt in oval at the top of each panel. The grips have no notable damage, only a few scattered light marks, mostly along edges. The checkering is well defined. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grips are in Fine-Excellent condition.

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore, but there is some stubborn fouling. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates about 9 out of 10.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 97% of its metal finish. There is a small scrape on the ejector rod housing. The action shows very minor operational wear. There are a few other scattered tiny marks. The screw heads range from sharp to tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this revolver is in Fine-plus condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This revolver comes in a blue plastic Colt box with serial-matching label.

Our Assessment: Aimed at the Cowboy Action Shooting competitor, Colt's Cowboy model retains the appearance of the classic Single Action Army, but with some features more desirable to the competitor and recreational shooter including a transfer-bar safety mechanism. The blued parts have medium polish instead of the high polish of the SAA and the frame is cast rather than forged, allowing the model to be offered at a notably lower price than the SAA. Introduced in 1999, the Cowboy had a fairly short production run, being discontinued in 2003. As with many such models, their short production run makes them a desirable model for the collector who wants one of each model produced by Colt and this example is in Fine-plus condition. Coming in its original box, it will suit the collectors, but it was made for shooting and should prove equally suited to all of your .45 Colt revolver needs. Please see our photos and good luck!
