Sights / Optics: The front sight is a serrated, ramped blade fixed to the barrel. The rear sight is a square notch integral to the topstrap. The topstrap is serrated for glare reduction.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece checkered walnut with silver-colored Colt medallions. The interior of the grips have non-matching numbers hand-written in white. The grips show even light handling wear. The checkering is generally well defined. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grips are in Very Good condition as not original to the gun.

Type of Finish: Nickel

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright and the rifling is sharp. There is some minor erosion and stubborn fouling in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates about 7/10.

Overall Condition: This revolver retains about 90% of its finish. The balance is mostly in minor erosion through the finish on the frame and sideplate above and in front of the grips with a few other scattered spots. There is a notable nick on the front of the front sight and some wear on the face of the muzzle. Some portions of the finish are a little cloudy, mostly on the frame. There are some scattered little marks that don't go through the finish. The action shows light operational wear. The screw heads range from sharp to tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this gun rates in Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this revolver. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The Colt Cobra is a lightweight version of the Detective Special, with an alloy frame rather than steel. These revolvers were quite popular not only for the quality of Colt's manufacturing, but also for holding six rounds, while comparable Smiths only held five. This is great for concealed carry as the weight won’t pull down your garments quite so much. This example is in Very Good condition with a desirable Nickel finish. This revolver could serve very well for concealed carry, but it would make a neat addition to a revolver or Colt collection. Please see our photos and good luck!
