Sights / Optics: The front sight is a fixed blade. The rear sight is "V"-notch in the top strap.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two piece checkered black hard rubber with rampant colt in oval at their tops. The interior of the grips do not have serial-matching numbers. The right panel has damage around the screw escutcheon on the interior, the escutcheon is held in place with some kind of adhesive. The exterior of the grips show even moderate-heavy handling wear with areas worn smooth. There is some good checkering at the top-front corners. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grips are in about Good condition.

Type of Finish: Blue and Case Color

Finish Originality: Original, numbered parts match, some screws replaced.

Bore Condition: The bore is gray. The rifling is well defined. There is scattered erosion and pitting in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 5+/10.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 3% of its metal finish. There is infrequent finish in well protected areas. Most surfaces have worn to white or gone to a light patina. There is some scattered minor surface erosion. There are some light nicks, scuffs and scratches. The head of the cylinder pin has had two flats cut. The action shows operational wear. The screw heads range from sharp to disfigured with usable slots. The markings range from clear to worn, but legible. Overall, this revolver is in Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This revolver comes with a vintage wool-lined holster with cleaning rod and with a Colt Archives letter. The letter indicates that this revolver shipped in its current configuration on July 30, 1907 to Simmons Hardware Co. in St. Louis, MO as one of 15 guns of the same type in the shipment.

Our Assessment: Colt's Single Action Army is, perhaps more than any other, an iconic American pistol. It was the U.S. issue sidearm for the last two decades of the 19th century, used by pioneers, outlaws and lawmen across the expanding nation, and captivated audiences on the silver screen and television and still does, today! This example is a 1st Generation Frontier Six Shooter made in 1907. Apart from markings and chambering, the 'Frontier Six Shooter' is the same as any other Single Action Army, but they are specifically chambered for the .44-40 WCF cartridge, making an ideal companion revolver for a Winchester lever action rifle chambered for the same cartridge. Any 1st Generation SAA would make a great addition to a Colt collection, and this early 20th Century example should be no exception.
