Sights / Optics: The front sight is a serrated ramp blade with a red insert, fixed to a rise in the barrel’s solid rib; the top of the barrel is serrated and matte finished for glare reduction. The rear sight is a flat top, square notched and white outlined leaf in a base that is micrometer-click adjustable for windage and elevation, screwed to the top strap.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are smooth Goncalo Alves target stocks with speed loader cutouts and S&W medallions. There is little to no handling wear. There are no chips or cracks. The grips rate in about Excellent overall condition. Target Hammer and Trigger.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 10/10.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 99% of its metal finish. There is little to no operational wear. There are a few small handling marks. The checkering on the hammer spur is sharp. The cylinder has a thin and faint turn line present. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this handgun rates in Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The double-action trigger is smooth and the single action is crisp. The cylinder lockup has very little light play. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Included is a factory Smith & Wesson presentation wood hard case with blue velvet lined interior and a signed New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Division of Law Enforcement letter dated June 26, 1980. The serialized letter matches the revolver and designates this centennial revolver as especially made for Environmental Conservation Police Officer: Mark L. Fey.

Our Assessment: This Smith & Wesson Model 19-4 New York State Conservation Police Commemorative revolver was produced in 1980 as part of a limited run of just 425 examples marking the centennial of the agency from 1880 to 1980. Built on the classic K-frame and chambered in .357 Magnum with a 4 inch pinned barrel, this revolver reflects Smith & Wesson’s long standing relationship with American law enforcement during the late 20th century. The Model 19’s combination of manageable size, excellent balance, and magnum capability made it a favored duty sidearm, and this commemorative issue captures that legacy in a highly polished, presentation grade format.

Condition remains outstanding, with the revolver retaining approximately 99 percent of its original blue finish and showing minimal handling evidence. The bore is bright with sharp rifling, the action is smooth in double action and crisp in single action, and lockup is tight with only a faint turn line present on the cylinder. Original Goncalo Alves target stocks, target hammer and trigger, and the factory presentation case are accompanied by a signed New York State Department of Environmental Conservation letter that is serialized to the revolver and names the original officer recipient. Overall, this is a scarce and well documented commemorative Smith & Wesson that blends historical significance with excellent preservation.
