Sights/Optics: The front sight is a brass bead in the middle of the upper barrel channel. The rear sight is a v-notch integral to the top of the frame.
Grip/Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two piece smooth wood panels. The grips show some pressure dings and other light handling marks. There is a crack on the top of the right panel. Overall, the grips rate in Good condition as an antique.

Bore Condition: The bores are dark and the rifling is worn. There is heavy pitting and erosion throughout the bores. In this writer's opinion, the bores rate 3/10.
Overall Condition: This firearm retains about none of its original metal finish as most has turned to patina, oxidation, or worn away. The finish shows pitting, patina, and spots of oxidation. The markings are fairly clear and complete. The screw heads are lightly tooled and retain turnable slots. Overall, this firearm rates in Fair to Good condition as an antique.
Mechanics: The action DOES NOT function correctly. The firing pin does not rotate with every hammer cock. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This C. Sharps & Co. Pepperbox Model 2A Variation 1A was manufactured between 1859 and 1874 and qualifies as an Antique firearm. Produced by C. Sharps & Company, these compact four-barrel pepperbox pistols were among the most recognizable pocket firearms of the mid-19th century. Designed for discreet personal protection, the Model 2A utilized a rotating striker mechanism that indexed to fire each barrel in succession without requiring the barrels themselves to rotate. These pistols were popular during the Civil War era and the American West, and surviving examples remain highly collectible for their unique mechanical design and historical significance.
Chambered in .30 Rimfire with 3 inch barrels, this single-action pepperbox offered multiple shots in a remarkably compact package for its time. In this writer's opinion, the bores rate 3 out of 10, showing heavy wear, corrosion, and diminished rifling. The action does not function correctly. The firing pin does not rotate with every cocking of the hammer, preventing reliable indexing between the barrels and making the pistol mechanically inoperative.
The grips rate in Good condition as an antique with expected age-related wear. None of the original metal finish remains, with the surfaces having developed an even patina along with areas of oxidation and wear accumulated over more than a century and a half. Overall, this firearm rates in Fair to Good condition as an antique and is best suited as a collectible or restoration candidate due to its mechanical condition. Despite its wear, it remains an authentic example of one of the most iconic American pocket pistols of the 19th century.
