Sights / Optics: The front sight is a serrated, ramped blade screw-secured to a base fixed to the front of the barrel. The topstrap is drilled and tapped with a square-notch rear sight adjustable for windage and elevation in its base.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece smooth laminate wood. The grips have some scattered minor scratches. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grips are in Very Good-plus condition.

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright, the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore, but there is a little stubborn copper fouling. In this writer’s opinion, this bore rates 9+/10.

Overall Condition: This pistol retains about 96% of its metal finish. There are some scattered minor nicks, scuffs and small scratches. The action shows light operational wear. The screw heads range from sharp to lightly tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this pistol is in Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a through cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This pistol comes in a blue cardboard Freedom Arms box with serial-matching label and manual.

Our Assessment: Freedom Arms makes what are probably the highest quality single-action revolvers in the world, and this single action Model 83 revolver is no exception. Produced August 7, 1991, it is chambered for .44 Magnum with a 7 1/2" barrel. It is not only the Premier Grade, but the box label indicates it was furnished with a factory action job, possibly performed in 2023 based on the label which has "updated 3/10/23" hand-written in the notes section. The action and trigger pull are exceptional. The lockup is solid with no movement. The brushed stainless finish is appealing to the eye as well as functional in being nearly impervious to the elements. The large-frame Model 83 is intended for cartridges such as .454 Casull, so it should be able to handle the most stout .44 Magnum cartridges. With Freedom Arms' quality, this is a really nice find for the revolver enthusiast or Freedom Arms fan. Please see our photos and good luck!
