Sights / Optics: The front sights are blades fixed to the barrels. The rear sights are square notches in the top straps.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece smooth walnut with gold-colored Colt Medallions. The inside of each panel has the last four digits of the serial number hand-written. The grips have no notable wear or damage, only light handling marks. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grips are in Excellent condition.

Type of Finish: Blue and Case Color

Finish Originality: Original, matching numbers.

Bore Condition: The bores are both bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bores. In this writer's opinion, the bores rate 10/10.

Overall Condition: Each revolver retains about 99% of its metal finish. There is no notable wear or damage, only light handling marks. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, these revolver are in Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The actions function correctly. We did not fire these revolvers. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Each revolver comes in a two-piece blue cardboard Colt box with white sleeves, serial-matching labels and an assortment of factory paperwork including manuals.

Our Assessment: In 1974, Colt quietly discontinued production of the single Action Army for the second time. Luckily, the loyal fans of the SAA would not need to wait long as colt would bring back the SAA in 1976 as the "3rd Generation". Changes were made but the basic SAA was the same, i.e. three standard barrel lengths of 4 3/4", 5 1/2" and 7 1/2", finishes of full nickel or blue, with color case hardened frame, and grips of hard rubber.

Some changes were incorporated including a pressed-in cylinder pin bushing, re-shaped cylinder ratchet and hand, and a change in the barrel thread pitch. Toward the end of 2nd Generation production Colt had begun using some investment cast parts, but the frames continued to be forged. The introductory caliber for 3rd Generation SAAs was .45 Colt, but other chamberings would soon follow.

This is a consecutive pair of Frontier Six Shooter revolvers made in 1993, chambered for .44-40 Winchester with 4 3/4". The revolvers are in absolutely Excellent condition, appearing to have spent more time in their included factory boxes than out. They have some neat features for the dedicated collector including smooth walnut stocks, "bullseye" ejector tabs and "black powder" frames, with the cylinder pin retained by a screw rather than a sprung cross-pin.
