Sights / Optics: The front sight is a quarter-round blade fixed to the front of the barrel. The rear sight is a square notch at the rear of the top strap.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece smooth ivory with silver-colored Colt medallions. The grips have no notable wear or damage, only light handling marks. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grips are in Excellent condition.

Type of Finish: Nickel

Finish Originality: Original, numbered parts match.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 10/10.

Overall Condition: This revolver retains about 98% of its metal finish. There are a few scattered minor marks. The front face of the loading gate has "907" hand-scribed, we are not certain of the significance of this marking. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this revolver is in Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: Colt's Model 1873, the Single Action Army, is the "gun that won the west", perhaps the most iconic handgun of all time. For nearly 150 years, the gun has been produced in a variety of configurations, finishes and calibers. This revolver is a beauty to behold and one of the finest single action revolvers ever produced. It is in Excellent condition with 98% of its factory nickel finish, a bright bore with sharp rifling and strong mechanics. It is chambered for the original .45 Colt cartridge with a 5 1/2" barrel and its nickel finish is set off nicely by a wonderful set of factory ivory grips.

Unlike the majority of 3rd Generation SAAs, this example has some older features. It's "black powder" frame secures the cylinder pin with a screw rather than a cross-pin, it has a "bullseye"-style ejector tab and a three-line patent marking. Showing little or no sign of use since leaving the factory, this revolver will take a prized place in a Colt collection and would certainly make for a gorgeous "BBQ gun" or display piece.
