Bore Condition: The bore is dark and the rifling is worn. There is heavy erosion and pitting throughout the bore. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 4/10.

Overall Condition: This firearm retains about 80% of it's original finish. The finish shows edge wear, oxidation spots, and scratches. The markings are clear and complete. The screw heads moderate tooling and retain turnable slots. Overall, this firearm rates in Very Good condition.

Our Assessment: This Belgian The Guardian American Model 1878 is an Antique pinfire revolver manufactured between 1880 and 1893. Produced in Belgium during the height of that country's firearms industry, these revolvers were based on the influential Lefaucheux pinfire system developed by Casimir Lefaucheux and his son Eugene. Belgian manufacturers produced countless variations for export around the world, often under proprietary trade names such as "The Guardian American Model." By the late 19th century, engraved nickel-plated examples represented the more decorative end of the market, combining practical utility with attractive presentation.

Chambered in 7mm Pinfire, this double-action revolver features the classic Lefaucheux side-loading design that helped popularize self-contained metallic cartridges during the mid-19th century. Although the pinfire system was eventually eclipsed by centerfire ammunition, it remains an important milestone in firearms development and is highly collectible today. In this writer's opinion, the bore rates 4 out of 10, showing heavy wear with diminished rifling. The action functions correctly.
