The Von Lengerke & Antoine (VL&A) Company was founded in 1891, and quickly became the premier sporting goods and outdoor retailer in Chicago. Like the outfitters Abercrombie & Fitch, VL&A offered products of the finest quality and catered to an upscale clientele. In 1938, VL&A was bought out by Abercrombie & Fitch, making any VL&A gear quite scarce today. This Antique Early 1900s VL&A Chicago 6" Medium Frame DA Revolver Leather Holster & Matching Gun Belt Rig is in Good Condition, with two missing stitches at the upper front edge of the holster, some overall flattening to the holster, heavy scattered drying, cracking, and surface tearing to the ammo loops of the belt, most of which have been re-sewn at some point in the past, a sizable glue repair to the fifth from left front ammo loop of the belt, moderate scattered drying and surface cracking to the belt, and with some overall fragility and age wear evident. Most interestingly, the holster is crafted of fairly supple brown leather in the classic “Mexican double loop” design, with a folded over skirt that also acts as the belt slide, boasts a sewn brown leather end plug, and is stamped at the upper front with its maker, the famous “V.L. & A. / CHICAGO”. It measures 4 3/4“ wide across the top opening, and 9 1/2“ long down the straight side, making it ideal for a Colt or Smith & Wesson medium frame double action revolver with a 6” barrel. The belt too is constructed of fairly supple brown leather, sports 35 sewn leather shell loops for .44 WCF/.45 LC ammo along the back, and is stamped at the right front with its matching maker, the famous “V.L. & A. / CHICAGO”, along with what appears to be “G1900”, and “30”, “06”, and “38”. The belt measures 40 1/2" long overall x 2 7/8" wide, carries a fully functional brass front buckle closure, and the set is a fine example of a rare, original Antique Early 1900s VL&A Chicago 6" Medium Frame DA Revolver Leather Holster & Matching Gun Belt Rig.
