Sights / Optics: The front sight is a serrated ramp blade with a red insert pinned to a ramped base integral to the barrel rib. The rear sight is a flat top, square notched leaf in a base that is micrometer click adjustable for windage and elevation. The top of the frame, rib, and rear sight base is checkered for glare reduction.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two piece smooth Goncalo Alves combat wood grips with finger grooves and S&W medallions at their tops. There are a few scattered handling marks. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grips rate in Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer's opinion the bore rates 10/10.
Overall Condition: This revolver retains about 99% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows little to no operational wear whatsoever. There is a very thin and faint turn line. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this handgun rates in about Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The lockup produces very light side-to-side movement with the trigger depressed. The double-action is smooth and the single action is crisp. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: Smith & Wesson introduced the stainless-steel Model 627 in 1989 as an special edition of its legendary N-frame .357 Magnum lineage, tracing directly back through the Model 27 to the original Registered Magnum of 1935. The early 627-0 "Model of 1989" was a distinctive configuration, using a 5 1/2" full-underlug barrel, six-shot unfluted cylinder, round-butt frame, smooth combat stocks, and finely checkered sighting surfaces. This initial configuration was relatively short-lived before subsequent engineering revisions, giving the 627-0 particular appeal among collectors of transitional and late 20th-century Smith & Wesson revolvers.
This circa 1989 example retains about 99% of its original stainless finish, showing little evidence of use beyond a very faint cylinder turn line and a few handling marks on the Goncalo Alves combat stocks. The bore rates 10/10, while the action functions correctly with a smooth double-action pull, crisp single-action release, and only very light lateral movement at lockup. Its factory box, manual, cleaning tools, protective paper, original-style combat stocks, and characteristic unfluted cylinder make this an unusually complete and well-preserved example of Smith & Wesson's first-generation stainless N-frame .357 Magnum. With just over 5,000 of these early models made, this one is sure to make a great addition to a Smith & Wesson collection.
