Sights/ Optics: The front sight is a blade fixed to the front of the barrel. The rear sight is a "V"-notch integral to the topstrap.

Stock Configuration & Condition/ Grip: The grips are two-piece checkered black hard rubber with rampant colt in oval at their tops. The grips show even light handling wear with a more notable scuff on the left panel below and in front of the grip screw. There are a few other more minor marks. The checkering is generally well defined. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grips are in Very Good condition.

Type of Finish: Blue and Case Color

Finish Originality: Original, numbers match.

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright with sharp rifling. There are scattered spots of light erosion in the bore. In this writer's opinion the bore rates 7/10.

Overall Condition: The pistol retains about 45% of its metal finish. The finish is thinning at all edges. There is finish wear along each side of the barrel and along the ejector housing. The grip areas are mostly worn to white. The frame has scattered muting and wear with areas of strong color. There is scattered wear around the outside of the cylinder. There are scattered nicks, scuffs, scratches. The butt has two more notable X marks scratched, apparently intentionally. There is some scattered light oxidation with less frequent minor surface erosion. Some worn areas are going to a light patina. The action shows operational wear. The screw heads range from sharp to tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this revolver is in Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this revolver. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The Colt Single Action Army is one of the most legendary firearms in history, widely recognized as the "Peacemaker" and a staple of the American West. This 1st Generation SAA, manufactured in 1899, represents a classic example of a working Colt revolver that has seen use over the years but remains mechanically sound and highly collectible.

Retaining about 45% of its original metal finish, this revolver retains its charm and historical appeal. Many early SAAs were refinished during their lifetime as they were used extensively by cowboys, lawmen, and civilians alike. This example not only retains original finish, but the bore is also in good shape, indicative of proper maintenance over the last 127 years.
