Albert Howard “A.H.” Hardy was a world famous sharpshooter, and a pallbearer at the funeral of William F. “Buffalo Bill” Cody in Denver, Colorado. Hardy began learning leather work in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 17 in 1893. Wherever he lived he always had his leather shop with him, making saddles, holsters, and belts. In 1926, he set up shop in Beverly Hills, California, where he also worked with the movie studios as a technical director, and taught actors how to shoot. Hardy worked with Tom Mix, Fred Stone, Clark Gable, and others, and he also made custom holsters for them. A.H. Hardy put out his last holster catalog in 1949, one year before his death, and any A.H. Hardy gun leather remains scarce and highly sought after today. This Vintage 1940s A.H. Hardy Colt 7.5" SAA Tooled Leather Pistol Holster & Bohlin Silver Gun Belt Rig is in Excellent Condition, with some wrinkling to the middle front closure strap, some scattered spot darkening at front and back, and with some light overall drying, stiffening, and age wear evident. Most interestingly, the holster is crafted in the classic “Mexican double loop” design, with a folded over skirt that also acts as the belt slide, bears incredible hand carved floral tooling all along the front, complemented by wispy scalloped lines of border tooling around the front skirt, and is stamped at the bottom front skirt (under the toe) with the classic oval "saddler" style logo of its maker, the famous "A.H. HARDY / MAKER / BEVERLY HILLS, CAL.". The holster is constructed of tough, rigid, yet fairly supple brown saddle leather, measures 4.5“ wide across the top opening, and 10 3/8“ long down the straight side, making it ideal for a Colt Model 1873 Single Action Army revolver with a 7.5” barrel, and features a purpose made open toe. The belt too is constructed of tough, rigid, yet fairly supple brown saddle leather, bears incredible hand carved floral tooling throughout, and is stamped at the right front with the matching oval "saddler" style logo of its maker, the famous "A.H. HARDY / MAKER / BEVERLY HILLS, CAL.". The belt sports 30 sewn leather shell loops for .44 WCF/.45 Colt ammo along the left side and back, and measures 50" long overall x 2 1/2" wide and, Measuring 44" to the first setting and 47" to the last. Most interestingly, the front buckle, keeper, and front strap end tip were all custom made by the legendary Ed Bohlin of Hollywood, California. They are crafted of sterling silver, exquisitely hand engraved with flowers, scrolls, and undulating lines, and the front buckle is stamped at the underside “Edward H. / Bohlin / HOLLYWOOD, CAL.” in a shield shape, along with “STERLING”. This is an unbelievable holster rig combining two of the best names in vintage Hollywood gun leather, A.H. Hardy and Edward H. Bohlin. The set is a beautiful example of a very rare, original Vintage 1940s A.H. Hardy Colt 7.5" SAA Tooled Leather Pistol Holster & Bohlin Silver Gun Belt Rig.
