Sights / Optics: The front sight is a serrated ramp blade pinned to a rise in the rib. The rear sight is a flat top, square notched leaf in a base that is micrometer-click adjustable for windage and elevation. The topstrap and top of the rib are checkered for glare reduction.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grip is a one-piece Pachmayr "Gripper" checkered black rubber with finger grooves. The grip has light handling wear with a few scuffs and marks. There is a short tear at the seam on the bottom-rear. The checkering is well defined. Overall, the grips are in Very Good condition as not original to the gun.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer's opinion, this bore is a 10 out of 10.

Overall Condition: This pistol retains about 94% of its metal finish. The balance is mostly in scattered tiny spots of minor oxidation. There are scattered minor scuffs and swirl marks. There are a few tiny nicks. The action shows light operational wear including a thin turn line on the cylinder. The screw heads range from sharp to lightly tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this handgun rates in Very Good-plus condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The Model 627 was introduced by Smith & Wesson in 1989 as a special edition stainless version of the timeless N-Frame Model 27. When first introduced by Smith & Wesson in 1935, it was known as the Registered Magnum, in 1939 Smith & Wesson changed the name to “The .357 Magnum”, later the Model 27. In the 1980s, Smith & Wesson introduced the legendary model in stainless finish and added the "6", which is associated with their stainless revolvers, and the 627 was born. The 627 was not as prolific as its blued sibling but production would later continue as an 8-shot Performance Center revolver. This is the original Model of 1989 627-0 with a 5 1/2" barrel with a checkered rib & topstrap plus an unfluted 6-shot cylinder. This one has some scattered light wear, but with about 5,000 made would certainly be a nice addition to a collection of Smith & Wessons...especially with the serial matching box!
